High above
fields of hops, an orchard of ancient apple trees
- a serpent of wood sculpted in the grass, an
apple also - sun beats down from an azure sky -
the grass grows high and moths flit among the
seed heads - No Man’s Orchard on the North
Downs Way - A hollow oak and among the graffiti
carved on it’s trunk, ‘D-Day, 6.6.1944’
- time telescoped in this ancient land -
thanksgiving I photograph the apple boughs.
