40: Valentine Deuce

Return To First Chapter

Two of the cars are worried about their friend Deuce one early February.  Josie asked Carl/a “What’s up with Deuce?  He doesn’t want to go on any trips, which is weird.  He always likes trips.  He tells us and the humans that he has no interest.”

Carl answers “I asked him.  He saw a sexy sports car the other day and fell for her immediately.  He’s been sending her messages with pictures of himself and dopey undying love blather.  She hasn’t responded and he’s heartbroken.  None of the stuff he usually likes cheers him up.  I doesn’t help that the rest of us have sweethearts to celebrate with.”

“Right.  My new guy, a sport Cadillac has a great celebration planned for us.  How about you?”

“Since I swing both ways, I’m going out with my girlfriend and boyfriend together for a picnic tomorrow.”

“As cars go, you are a real swinger.”

“Not just us, our people Josie and Duke have taken it to eleven.”

“True, they just skipped to the main event, and in full sight in their picture window.  I think they must have put an amplifier in the room.  Their celebration can be heard in the next county.”

Carl/a has an idea “How about we suggest the three of cars go somewhere and have some before the two of us have our dates later.”

“Good idea.  Let’s give it a try.”

As they approach Deuce they can see he is absorbed in a message he is receiving.  He interrupts Josie and Carl/a before than can try to cheer him up.  “That was Sandy, the car I liked.  She said she was having her comms serviced earlier and couldn’t read my messages until now.  She said she liked my picture and thought me very attractive.  She just broke up with an SUV she said treated her badly, and she very much wants to meet up.  As much as I’d like to hang out with you guys, I’m going to her place right now.”

The people and cars got together later that day after all of their Valentine’s activities.  They were all happy, but the happiest was Deuce.  He wouldn’t spill any details, but he would say “Remember that old song ‘Love Came To Town’.  That’s all you need to know.”
