Three Strikes
by M. V. Montgomery

1. A Case Closed
“Was there, perhaps, a virus going around?”
“Why…yes.  However did you know that?”
“At the dinner party, Professor Perpitude wasn’t asking you for cashews, I don’t think.”
“What, then?”
“I think what you heard was…a sneeze!”
“Good Heavens!”

2. My Sound Bite
On the plane, the lady seated next to me was evidently having a great deal of trouble with the take-off. She put her head between her legs, then grabbed a barf bag from the seat in front of her and breathed in and out of it slowly. But she still looked dizzy and nauseous, and at one point collapsed sideways into my lap.
“I’m sorry,” she said, straightening up immediately.
“That’s OK,” I said, soothingly. “Whatever gets you through the flight, it’s alright, it’s alright.”

3. The Lovely May-December Romance
“Will you still need me and feed me when I’m 64?”
“Silly you!  You are already 64.”
“And will you take care of me and pamper me?”
“Pamper you?  Uh…I guess.”
“Great, because it’s time to change my diaper!”
