The Moon, Who Would Sing a Sad Song
by Chloë Yates

The Moon would sing a sad sad song
If she had a mouth –
But clad with anorthorsite and crater pocks,
She’ll be mute for evermore.

The Moon would sing a sad sad song
If she had emotion –
But her rigid lithospheric mantle
Keeps her cool and distant.

The Moon would sing a sad sad song
If she had a soul –
But she’s a dry and dusty rocky crust
Without atmosphere or air.

The Moon would sing a sad sad song
If she had a heart –
But her core’s an iron-rich non-magnetic ball
And she’s really just a moon.
