An Inconvenient Alternative Truth
by Zach Smith

Part 1 – An Inconvenient Alternative Truth

The ten coldest years ever measured all accrued in the last fourteen years. The coldest year of all: 2005.

The scientific consensus is that we are causing global cooling.

This is Hudson Bay, 40 years ago it was a major shipping passage into and out of Canada. Today Port Churchill is the only dock left. In another ten years, it will be impossible to ship materials in and out of Canada.

This is Mount Kilimanjaro 70 years ago when Hemingway first wrote about it, basically a single scoop ice cream cone. This is it today, the snows have reached half way down, now it’s a double scoop. By the time the Hemingway story turns a century old, you will not be able to see Kilimanjaro for the snows that covers it.

The last big freeze killed off the dinosaurs… who do you think will be the victim this time?

Temperature depressions are in place all over the world and that’s causing stronger storms.

Shouldn’t we prepare against other threats besides terrorism?

The arctic is growing rapidly and the pack ice is drawing water from all over the world.

If the oceans recede by 20 feet, there would be no more Florida Keys, many countries will have more land, but it won’t do them any good. Nothing will grow in this new land because of the salt, and nothing will grow in the old land because of the cold.

Rivers will dry up, deserts will grow, and prime farmland will be more and more limited.

Think of the impact of a couple thousand refugees… now imagine a hundred million.

Americans will have to sneak into Mexico just to stay warm.

Part 1b – Interlude: “The Polar Bear Sequence”

This is Bal Harbor shops, an ultra-luxury mall in Miami Florida. With the rapid cooling of our planet, it is not impossible that polar bears will be the new clientele. It’s cute to imagine them sitting around drinking sodas and eating soft pretzels in the food courts. But that’s just the appetizer, don’t forget the main course… you.

Part 2 – The Sequel: “Alternative Truth 2 Alternative Power”

From an American politician: “It's supposed to be 70 degree's this summer, we’re frying here. Speaking of global cooling where is we need some global cooling?” [sic].

The most criticized scene in the movie was the polar bear sequence.

From a newsreel: “Escaped Polar Bears from the Miami zoo terrorize Bal Harbor, one injured two dead.”

Climate change can be polarizing… but we're seeing the most amount of positive change.

From another newsreel: “Things are heating up at the Paris Cooling Conference.”

What would it take to shift to alternatives like Fossil Fuels? Virtually every nation agreed on repairing the greenhouse gas layer. And then…

From the same American politician: “It's time to put America first… that includes the huge promise to cancel huge climate regulations that hurt working families, it’s gonna be great,” [sic].

What are you going to tell your grand kids when they ask: what were you thinking?

Getting on a rocket ship and living on Mars is not an option. This is our home. That is not the exit. This is not the end.
