Request for bailout / stimulus package

RE: Request for bailout / stimulus package

Respected Mr. President and Mr. Treasury Secretary,

I am the president of the Federation of Erotic Art Producers, better known as FEAP. FEAP is a duly registered Section 501 (c) (3) non-profit entity. Our organization is an umbrella organization representing more than 100 smaller organizations whose goal is to promote erotic art, commonly known as pornography.

As you may or may not know, the production of high-quality pornography has decreased by over 90% during the past twenty years. This is due largely to the following:

1) Enforcement of strict anti-obscenity laws, which has forced producers of smut to ‘take their business elsewhere.’ Many of our outstanding member artists are either in jail or on parole for expressing their rights to free speech.

2) The explosion of non-professional or ‘amateur’ porn being produced by libidinous college students having phones with built-in cameras, restless housewives using cheap digital cameras and opportunistic freelancers using home video equipment. The romp videos produced by this sector are low quality, but they attract high eyeball ratios because the orgasms are real.

3) The widespread practice of copying CDs containing legitimate porn videos and rampant distribution of same freely on the Internet has led to an erosion of profits for our members.

From the time the video camera was invented to the present, adult pornography has pumped millions of dollars into the American economy and provided entertainment for discerning adults at reasonable cost. It is an industry that is essential for the smooth functioning of a free, progressive and democratic society.

On behalf of the FEAP, I hereby request the Congress of the United States to introduce legislation designed to safeguard and promote the rights of America’s porn artisans and producers. If poorly-managed companies like AIG, GM, Ford, Chrysler and Citibank can receive hundreds of billions of dollars in public bailout money, then surely professionally-managed companies engaged in the production and distribution of commercial erotic art are rightfully entitled to federal bailout money. As per our calculations, our industry needs an immediate infusion of $25 billion to stay afloat.

Gentlemen, I do not need to tell you how important saving the porn industry is to the American people, not to mention the American economy. It is imperative that you Mr. President and you Mr. Treasury Secretary work swiftly in conjunction with Congress to pass legislation to bail out and/or stimulate the fledgling adult film industry. Without this bailout / stimulus package, millions of Americans will be left without a valid form of entertainment and thousands of hard working artisans will be forced to prostitute themselves on the streets. As you can appreciate, the streets of America are no place for erotica artisans. They belong indoors under lights and cameras, doing what they do best, for the viewing pleasure of the American public. I submit that this issue is of national public importance and it is the government’s paramount duty to ensure that it bail out and/or stimulate America’s struggling but vital porn industry.

With highest regards,

Richard Anderson
President, FEAP
