Sands of Time

                        Ill never
see the sea again or smell the salty air
or hear the crashing waves, music to my
                        ear
Ill not watch again the sea mist
                        rolling towards the shore
Pick up that special shell, excited, look
                        for more
A fishing trawler spotted, on horizon
                        barely seen
Hard men on board as theres alway
                        been
                        Physically exhausting, danger every turn
But when safely back in port, for the sea
                        again they yearn
To hear the laughter of excited young
                        ones
With spades for castles yet to build
How can you describe the magic of a day
                        with wonder filled
Now the Sun is really hot, best day this
                        summers seen
Mums are well prepared with highest
                        factor cream
I have been so fortunate to have
                        experienced these cameos
As a Child, a Parent, a Grandparent and
                        its hard to believe
                        another generation beyond that, a
                        contented sigh I heave
Serendipity in rock pool, lifting every
                        rock
Lets try the next one, never mind
                        the clock
See fun and possibilities in every single
                        thing
Crabbing with mussels tied on a piece of
                        string
Pull up very slowly avoid those nipping
                        claws
Happily challenging, mine's a bigger one
                        than yours
                        Such friendly competition came naturally
                        when young
Why do we have to grow up, want ladders
                        highest rung
Won't go down that route, its not a
                        day for clouds
Just think about the present, time enough
                        for shrouds
I guess Im chasing sunbeams, of so
                        many happy days
Reliving moments, the tricks my mind
                        sometime plays
Cameos so great in number both as man and
                        boy
There are so many who will not know such
                        joy
So will wipe away my sadness and rejoice
                        when I hear my call
Better to have seen and lost
Than never seen at all |
