Misplaced Sympathy
by Ian Curtress

I hadn’t travelled on a coach for years
but a spur of the moment thing
I decided to visit Cambridge
one lovely day in Spring
The coach ride I thought would make a change
I could enjoy the view
I had a pleasant window seat
wide enough for two
The coach quite quickly filled
and a soberly dressed young man
settled in alongside me
and opened up a plan
He noticed my interest
and explained he was going somewhere new
and wanted to arrive on time
to meet with friends he knew
I’m going to Bury St Edmunds
The young man gently sighed
I offered my condolences
I didn’t know he’d died
